Moscow Trio
Moscow Trio

The Moscow Trio was founded in 1968, and has been in its present formation since 1976. In recent years, the Trio has become one of the most highly esteemed chamber music groups in Russia; their significant contribution to Russian culture is reflected in the 1994 conferral of the title "People's Artist of Russia" to each member of the Trio. Each member currently teaches at the Moscow State Conservatory, and performs in the Moscow State Philharmonic.

Among the awards granted the Trio include Second Prize at the 1969 International Competition in Munich, and First Prize awards at the 1972 International Competition in Belgrade and the 1975 "Interforum" International Music Festival in Budapest; as well as the Gold Medal "Maurice Ravel" at the 1976 Bordeaux Music Festival. Throughout this period, the Trio was enriched through the guidance of Professor T.Gaidamovitch.

The Trio boasts a very broad repertory of trio literature by composers from the 18th century to the present, with works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorák, Ravel, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Nordgren, Frydman, Tchulaki, and many others; they have premiered numerous works, especially in Russia. They have toured extensively, giving concerts throughout Russia, as well as in Europe, South America, Asia, and the United States. The Trio has made somewhat of a specialty of Triple Concertos, performing those of Beethoven, Marinu, Casella, Tcherepnin, and Nikolayev. The Trio has recorded for the Melodia, MCA, Le Chant du monde, Tritonus, Mariman, and Vista Vera labels.
